Data Partners

A key element of our philosophy is on providing free-flowing ideas to educators that can be used in problem solving and decision making scenarios with the learners; we do not provide a step-by-step, recipe book approach to learning or just sell software.

As a result, one of the key components of our Geomatica product is the provision of up to date data for educators to use in their teaching.

We are fully aware that educators have access to many datasets from local municipalities and the internet. However, it takes time to locate these and to load them into a product so that they and their learners can interact with the data. Many educators simply do not have the time to do this. Our service, therefore is to find out from educators what their needs and requirements are and to collate this data for them in a ready to use educational format.

The Aircraft Operating Company (AOC) (http://www.aoc.co.za/)  provide us with high quality aerial photographs especially for local environment atlases in Gauteng.

As an investor in our company GeoTerraImage  (http://www.geoterraimage.co.za/) give us access to extensive digital data sets based on earth observation satellite data and aerial photography for use in the development of the Geomatica Product Suite

The Surveyor General (http://csg.dla.gov.za/data.htm) provide us with digital versions of all the 1:50000 Toposheets in South Africa.

Collaborations

We believe that the success of our product is linked to forming lasting relationships with educators in all sectors of South African education: formal, informal and home schooling, both at ground roots level and management level.

Rhodes University Mathematics Education Project (RUMEP) http://www.ru.ac.za/affiliates/rumep/. We have an informal collaboration with RUMEP to guide the development of new Maths materials and resources. It is vital for us to consult people who have the right expertise to advise on these matters; RUMEP as an organisation is ideal for this, as they are involved in teacher development and upliftment.

Impak Onderwysdiens http://www.impakonderwys.co.za. Impak provide a comprehensive framework for parents who home school their children. Impak have decided to incorporate the Geomatica Titanium Atlas into their Geography syllabus from grade 4 to 12 for their registered learners.
